ISCHIA - A Land of Age-old Thermal Traditions
The Island of Ischia is of volcanic origin. Evidence of this can be found today in its world-famous thermal baths. Indeed, Ischia has been famous for its hot springs since ancient times. The first to colonize the island were the Greeks, who discovered and exploited the curative powers of the hot mineral spring waters as well their beautifying properties, while we owe to the Romans the promotion of this type of therapy and its wide diffusion. Since 1892 Ischia Thermae uses the special properties of clay together with thermal waters in the preparation of highly-valued face and body masks. This century of experience has produced an exclusive thermal skin treatment program, the Thermal Skincare Programme® (TSP®): the synthesis of a perfect blend of cosmetic science and natural elements possessing unique properties, it provides an effective solution for every beauty problem. TSP® proposes complete treatments for the face and for the body. The products used in the treatment are collected and prepared directly on the island to guarantee the quality and the complete integrity of their components. They are expressly designed to bring to the epidermis all the elements it needs. Furthermore, they are produced using plant extracts and other natural substances, keeping their elaboration to a minimum. In this way a high quality standard is maintained that guarantees a synergic and specific effectiveness and tangible results.
Since 1892 they have been the only beauty products produced on Ischia with the island’s original raw materials.

THERMAL MUD
The mud which serves as the base for cosmetic products begins its journey on the heights of the volcanic outcrop of Mount Epomeo, in the centre of the Isle of Ischia. Heavy rains, penetrating the cracks in the trachytic rock, form the mud by admixture with fragments of this volcanic rock. The mud is then carried down the hillside by rainwater in the alluvial torrents and is deposited in the mud collection pools.
After a few days, the excess water can be removed and the mud is left to dry. The next step is to crush the caked mud into a very fine powder in preparation for the “maturing” phase which follows.
The mud is transferred to the production laboratories, where it is allowed to “mature” for about six months in special tanks. The water from a thermal spring which gushes out at 70-80°C is directed into these tanks. During this long period of maturation, the properties of the thermal waters are absorbed by the mud, making it unique.
THERMAL WATER
The temperature of the Ischia Themae thermal water source (72°C on average) allows the mud to be enriched with mineral salts and non-mineral elements in a way which is not possible with water at lower temperatures. The undisputed capacity of this water to achieve a correct mineral balance helps give skin cells new vigour and energy in carrying out their natural functions
